 Welcome to E.S.S.A.S.C.
YES WE"RE STILL HERE!
Dear ESSASC Families,
With the start of the swimming season looming we thought you would appreciate a brief update from the swimming club committee.
Last week were contacted by Education Queensland (EQ) and asked to attend a meeting between ourselves and EQ Representatives from the Met North Regional Office. As a result of that meeting the swimming club and associated learn to swim program will no longer be run as a sub-committee of the Enoggera State School P&C.
We were informed by EQ that the P&C has been directed to ensure that excess funds raised by the swimming club to date (approx $28K) are only spent on the swimming pool and swimming facilities. We believe this financial directive and the decision to have the swimming club and lessons run independently in the future are positive outcomes for both the school and the wider community and that all parties will greatly benefit from this new management structure.
EQ assured us that the swimming club is a resource valued by the Department they do not want to see lost. While a tender process does need to be undertaken by EQ it was suggested that the current swimming club committee could be appointed in a ‘caretaker’ role as an independent Incorporated Association to ensure that the status quo is maintained during this interim period. We will of course be submitting a tender application.
It was extremely encouragingly to hear from EQ of examples of independent community managed groups who currently successfully run facilities associated with other schools (swimming clubs and after school care programs). We were much encouraged by this information and EQ’s offer to appoint a tender liaison person to assist us in the upcoming tender process.
As agreed with EQ we will hear back later this week about our appointment as ‘caretakers’. We will notify you of the outcome of this decision as soon as it is to hand but, at this stage, do not envisage any problems and look forward to contacting you with this and other information about the upcoming season soon.
You can rest assured that the successful management team the club has enjoyed for some time will continue to work diligently to ensure the continuation of this fabulous welcoming, community focused and financially viable club.
Your support , as always, is very much appreciated and we look forward to seeing you at sign on day for the 2010-11 season. If you would like more detailed information please do not hesitate to contact any of the committee members shown below.
Kind regards,
Peta Peace
